A small, dimly lit room in a local police station. Officer Sarah, a stern yet compassionate policewoman, sits at her desk, going through paperwork. Suddenly, the door opens, and a distressed woman, ANITA, rushes in.
ANITA (panicking) Officer Sarah, please help me! My daughter just gave birth in jail, and the police took the baby away!
OFFICER SARAH Calm down, Anita. Start from the beginning. What happened?
ANITA (teary-eyed) My daughter, Maya, was arrested a week ago for a minor offense. She didn’t tell anyone she was pregnant. Today, she gave birth in her cell, and the police took the baby away without letting her see it.
OFFICER SARAH (serious) This is a serious matter. I’ll look into it. Sit down and take a deep breath.
INT. POLICE STATION – HOLDING CELLS – LATER
Officer Sarah approaches Maya’s cell, where Maya sits alone, visibly distraught.
OFFICER SARAH Maya, I need to know the details. Why didn’t you inform anyone about your pregnancy?
MAYA (ashamed) I was scared, Officer. I thought they would treat me differently if they knew. I never imagined this would happen.
OFFICER SARAH (sympathetic) I understand, Maya. Now, I’ll do my best to help. Do you know where they took the baby?
MAYA (softly) No, they didn’t tell me anything. Just took my baby away.
OFFICER SARAH I’ll find out. Stay here.
INT. POLICE STATION – OFFICER SARAH’S DESK – CONTINUOUS
Officer Sarah investigates the situation, making calls and checking records. She discovers that the baby was taken to a nearby hospital for a routine checkup.
OFFICER SARAH (to Anita) Good news, Anita. They took the baby to the hospital for a checkup. I’ll arrange for you to see Maya and the baby.
INT. HOSPITAL ROOM – LATER
Anita, Officer Sarah, and Maya are in a hospital room. The baby lies in a crib beside Maya.
ANITA (teary-eyed, holding Maya’s hand) We’re here for you, Maya. And we’ll get through this together.
